Three passages. Romans 8 covers what the Spirit does in us. Galatians 5 covers what that looks like from the outside. John 1 covers who the Son is.

- We received the Spirit of adoption, not of slavery and fear → Spirit of adoption
- The legal background to that adoption → Roman adoption
- Joint heirs with Christ. His sufferings now, his glory later → Suffering precedes glory
- Creation subjected to futility, groaning, waiting → Creation groans for redemption
- The Spirit as a foretaste of what is coming → First fruits of the Spirit
Galatians 5 is about what it looks like
- Love, joy, peace and the rest. Kindness and goodness are different → Fruit of the Spirit
- Crucifying the flesh, keeping in step, and what an apology is worth → Walking by the Spirit
John 1 is about who Jesus is
- The Word was with God, and was God → The Word was God
- The light the darkness could not overcome → Light shines in the darkness
- How John’s gospel is built → Seven signs in John
